Blanca Lake, Elaho Valley, Squamish
July 28-29, 2020
It was a three hour drive up the Squamish Valley, more than half of it on gravel road. The last 2 km were fraught with deep, rutted out water bars so Henning didn’t want to take the new jeep any further. We walked uphill in the heat of the afternoon, swatting annoying horseflies and deer flies. I was particularly disturbed by the large, greying wood piles signalling ongoing clearcut logging. How could this spectacular valley with stunning mountain scenery be OK’d for such destruction?
When we finally arrived at Blanca Lake, a snow field lay in the foreground and stark towering rock walls surrounded a deep turquoise body of water that reflected the peaks. In every direction snow capped mountains greeted us!
